You failed yourself, could have easily asked "are you the original owner of the unit?" before buying. EBay 101.
good work josh appreciate 👏
I, got 2 brand new air conditioners installed back in April. I’m keeping cool and comfortable!! I’m sticking with the A/C To keep cool!! 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
I am intested in using this at my business for my customers but only want to have "on" during business hours. Is this possible with the scheduling feature on the app? I.e. Open from 9-6 W-F 10-5 on Sat and Sun.
that definitly dont look easy installing those
ChargePoint customer service is garbage.
Best to coat the wire ends with anti-ox before clamping in the outlet. It is requisite for aluminum wire, but also helps with copper wire. Some appliances like refrigerators trip GFCI breakers. Latest-greatest is AFCI-GFCI "combined" breakers. Some Eaton models suffered so many false trips that they have a stealth recall to replace them for free.
country of origin/ made in country?
Huh, I bought an open box CPHF on eBay for $300 shipped and I have had zero problems putting it in and setting it up including setting the amperage on the user app myself. Sucks to be you!
Should have returned it with eBay’s buyer protection guarantee.
Against the white garage door. You can't really see the mist correctly. Sorry.
You made looks easy... Thank you
I hope you don't cause many fires. Tesla recommends 6 gauge wire. And you're using a shitty $10.00 outlet. You need to use a Hubble or Bryant $50 outlet. Penny wise and pound foolish.
J1772 also specifies that the wall plug should not be longer than 300mm (1ft) so that double-length cable is technically non-standard. That said, I think it’s silly that the EVSE has to be so short on that end so I hope they revise the standard.
The national electrical code requirements on that are different for portable vs. fixed in place, I think the on foot is only for portable.
@@charliesullivan4304 I hope so but all my portable seem to confirm to it except for the one I built myself. :)
You got me to look back at the NEC. It didn’t say portable directly, but that the “protection device” needs to be within the first foot.
@@chargeeverywhere thanks for looking that up. I think I mixed it up with the 25 ft. length limit, which is measured differently for wall mount versus portable.
I love the PCB board review part, and look forward to seeing more of your charger reviews!
Thank you! You didn't have long to wait as I just released a new one this morning.
A device like this should be bought new to avoid issues such as this.
I think this is shitpost no?
I believe you have to be an installer, who went through their installer program, to alter the software.
typical random youtube video. you need a 50 amp breaker and a 6 guage wiring for this to be safe
It's not that simple. The issue is derating. 80% of rated for a "continuous" load. Which is defined a greater than 3 hours in the NEC.
@@TheRayDog mobile charger draws under 40A which is well within 80%.
You know what would have been really helpful? A link to Home Depot for all of these parts, even if unavailable for many, would have provided product descriptions for people to use when shopping online.
Can it drill concrete?
Extremely misleading thumbnail
Is the hot dog safe to eat? Can metal ions migrate into the hotdog?
Never knew installing 14-50 outlet had so many considerations. When talking about such a long charge, how does all of this affect Tesla owners who plug their mobile connector into a wall outlet? Charge times can go from 8-30 hours. Thanks for the video!
The bigger question is why use a 14-50 outlet to begin with? Unless you're planning on making cookies in your garage, the neutral circuit (and wire) is completely pointless, complicates it and makes it quite a bit more expensive. Tesla has adapters for the more appropriate 6-50R plug.
I'd disagree. It's never a bad idea to have 2 paths to ground. Whether a particular car's charging takes advantage of that is another question.
@@TheRayDog Completely pointless comment. Neutral is *never* "a path to ground..." that _any_ circuit would ever use.
@@awebuser5914 Take a look in your breaker panel, where neutral and "ground" are bonded and grounded to earth. Check your local substation where neutral is grounded to earth. Power from hot seeks ground, whether you like the nomenclature or not. "Neutral" is actually the slightly incorrect and misleading term. From a safety perspective, the 2nd path to ground is always welcome, and also allows for much easier/cheaper fault detection. Having no path to ground invites a floating neutral, which invites problems. Hence why the NEC is clear on where to segregate ground and neutral, where to bond ground and neutral, and sufficiently grounding neutral at the service entrance.
@@TheRayDog Ya, no shit that neutral and ground are essentially the same potential current path, but the point is your nonsense about "paths to ground" is just that, nonsense. Having an unused neutral is completely pointless and would offer *zero* protection from any kind of realistic failure that exposes a hazard. In any case, *every* EVSE will simply not have the neutral wired _in any way_ so, again, it is *irrelevant* . Wiring a 240V EVSE plug with neutral is *completely pointless* . End of story.
@@awebuser5914 Of course you want a neutral. Plenty of people use an L2 outlet for L1 with adapters. It's lazy and not forward thinking to add the neutral. L1 on L2 is the only code compliant wiring setup the vast majority of consumers can manage anyway. If you hardwire, by all means omit the neutral if your EV doesn't use it. But that's not what this video is about. This is a 14-50 vid. A welder, a compressor, a table saw. That's one of the points of going with an outlet rather than hardwiring- versatility. Never mind that most standalone chargers use a 14-50 plug. A 6-50, which is what apparently you're advising, would be a seriously poor choice. The industry has moved away from it and the NEC as well. Why did you even comment on a 14-50 vid?
Awesome videos .. quick question what type of rims do you have on your bolt?
8 AWG is not rated for 50 AMPs. 6 AWG is rated for 50 amps.
Tesla chargers are up to 80 amps for one .. rated continuous load 125% . no wonder you're cooking the outlet. Read the name plate on the charger and see what your charger requires. more than likely, the equipment bonding jumper is connected to the natural, like dryers.
What’s the chargers cable you are using and how much was it?
As far as I've seen miles don't matter as much as how you treat the battery or how old it is. There was one guy who was practically babying his model 3 and had far lower degradation compared to the average, he didn't charge it above 80% and only slow charged it and kept it in heated garage. I've been looking at used 2012-2014 Tesla Model Ss and noticed that they tend to last around 250k miles before the battery dies. These are the 1st gen so I honestly believe Teslas word that their cars last over 400k miles now. One thing missing here is how age is affecting degradation, it'll be interesting to see low mileage but 20 year old model 3s fair.
Title says Truth about Tesla and proceeds to talk about the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Bolt. Battery tech has improved a lot since then. There is plenty of information about Tesla batteries on cars that have been driven over 200,000 miles. Include that. This is anti ev ignorance and if not outright FUD.
I think the eBay market for this type of used device, due diligence should now include "has this device been unlinked from original account". Than the market can have 2 prices for ones that are linked and unlinked based on what the market determines. Charge point has to prioritize features and processes on their end, and I can see how reallocating resources to solve problems on the used market wouldn't take priority. I understand your frustration, but your problem doesn't have to be their problem since they already made their calculated profit margin from the first owner.
Someone buy this man a cut off wheel
It’s against the law to install without a permit.
in a similar situation, bought a charger (brand new) from market place, wifi worked and then stopped working within the first week. chargerpoint is now making me go through it to get the issue addressed. also going thru redditt seems like wifi not working is a common issue as well.
Pure click bait
Wow. This is very inspiring and informative Video. Thank a lot. Why did you leave out the motorcycle in your fuel efficiency comparison though. ?? Is it the next best alternative to the bike?? Or is walking way much better??
Well done! Well done, sir. Why did you ditch the springs?
I just bought this drill on Amazon and here I am!! I can already tell I made a good purchase. under 100 bucks? FANTASTIC!! (oh PS... Subscribed!)
Where is the link for the shocks? And do you have dimensions for all the parts?
You can't make a complaint video on a product you bought on eBay dude. Nine times out of 10 your your product is going to be fck'd up.
wait this is all what they are charging up to $1500 for, wtf lol?
Great job Josh, it’s especially useful to find this here as i’m installing a Gen2 unit that was purchased in 2019.
Is there a manual reset?
50a is 6 gauge.
#6 aluminum,#8 copper, at 75C.
tezla???
❤❤ cool
Your problem is with EBay.; you are not ChargePoint’s customer. I agree the situation sucks, but the seller should give you a refund. I also don’t understand why you would pay so much for a used unit when a new one with warranty is so close in price. I hope you mange to resolve this. I’ve been using a hardwired ChargePoint unit for nearly 7 years and the unit has been flawless.
Wait, so you think you should be able to contact a manufacturer and say “I want you to remotely make me the owner of someone else’s device without any form of verification”? And when the manufacturer insists on verification, you say they’re “yanking your chain”. Did you think that all the way through?
Will this company ship you a NACS cable to switch from J1772 once it becomes more mainstream? Would also like to see more configuration options on the internal dip switch. Thanks for showing the inside of this unit! Bolt EUV owner here too. Delayed charging is awesome and I would love to see if this company solves the delayed charging conundrum via a software or firmware update. And, of course, love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for a great review.
Thank you for the comment! NACS version is coming soon. With the smart functions being set on the charger - everything works perfectly. For those EV owners that has personal preferences on scheduling - we created a separate firmware. We will update Josh's device soon.
